The American Pitbull Terrier has gained a bad rep as an aggressive dog - even being banned in some countries. Yet Pits are in general friendly dogs with a genuine love of people.

They do, however, have a tendency towards dominance and aggression against other dogs, so proper training and socialization is essential.

With the Pitbulls legendary strength, tough names seem to work well for the breed, but don't feel you have to name your Pitbull 'Killer'. Petey, from the Little Rascals was a Pit, as is the gentle Daddy, on the TV show, The Dog Whisperer.
